This process usually starts in a garden somewhere and works its way to my studio. The high contrast between darks and lights in my work reflect the life cycle of a flower. A flower begins its journey in the earth as a seed and as it grows it eventually blooms toward the light. This process allows me to express the full spectrum of light and darkness and despite all odds inspires the viewer to bloom to their fullest potential.
I’m a Charleston, SC native and grew up mostly barefoot wondering my hometown of James Island. As a kid I roamed free with my sisters exploring our neighborhood of Riverland Terrace. I believe this is where my love of nature truly formed. We spent most of our time outdoors.

As a child of a single mother of 3 we were often forced to make due with what we had. This forced me to use my imagination a lot. My mother is a huge force in my life. She taught us that the best things in life are free and that creativity is of most importance. To be creative became second nature to me because she was constantly behind the scenes encouraging me to express myself.
Once I was placed in Charleston County Schools, it was the community that informed me that I had something special in the arts that was worth pursuing. It is this same community that continues to inspire me today.
My formal education of drawing and painting is fairly limited. As a high school student I was an IB/AP Art student and enjoyed filling my schedule with Broadcast Journalism and visual art courses. I was accepted into the Redux Summer Art Institute for 3 consecutive years during this time. From there, I took a few college courses and decided to step away from institutions all together. I was involved in a number of group shows locally and a couple small solo exhibits in my 20s. Fast forward to 2021, I’m a mother of 2, wife, barista, yoga instructor, traveler and gardener.
I’m an artist through and through.
My heart won’t let it be any other way.
Human’s symbiotic relationship with nature will always fascinate me. The metaphors nature shares through the personal life cycles of plants and animals directly enlivens me.

Flowers specifically have become a focal point as I hone in my drawing and painting skills. A flower is seen as delicate and beautiful. Take a look deeper into how they became this way. They endured against all odds and managed to produce a bloom.
Inspiring people keeps me going. First, I need to feel inspired and happy myself. Gardens and outdoor spaces do that for me. Flowers remind me to accept my situation wherever I happen to be rooted and express myself as gracefully as a bloom. These plants continue to work towards light, or positivity, and as a collective manage to keep us all alive. This is the philosophy behind my artwork that I hope sparks encouragement in others. To inspire people the way nature inspires me is the goal in creating floral art.
The beauty I discover in nature leads me to find the beauty within myself. We have to be eager to seek it and hold on to it. I feel the most peace when I am alone. There have been many people locally, globally, dead and alive who inspire and amaze me. Most importantly, the sort of inspiration I seek is the kind that comes from within and from our oneness with nature.
